Community leaders from the six office zones of Yayasan Sabah are extended invitations to a sustainable development camp where topics are carefully selected to focus on the responsible use of natural resources for generating additional income while emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation. The objectives include heightening awareness and comprehension among community leaders regarding sustainable development practices within their respective villages or districts, introducing potential commercial activities in their areas, familiarizing them with Yayasan Sabah Group’s conservation efforts, and emphasizing the significance of utilizing natural resources in a sustainable manner. Five expert speakers from various fields, including the Wildlife Department, Fishery Department, Homestay initiatives, Environmental Advisory Council (EAC), and Entrepreneurship, are invited to deliver talks during the camp.
A series of site visits are organized to locations identified for sustainable projects or programs utilizing the natural resources available in their surroundings. The objectives are to offer local leaders firsthand learning experiences by visiting successful projects/programs that harness natural resources such as forests, rivers, waterfalls, caves, and historical sites, as well as cultural practices like food, dance, beliefs, and attire, which can generate income for families or communities. Additionally, these visits aim to raise awareness among local leaders about their role in conserving and protecting the natural environment through sustainable development within their respective villages. One such location is Miso Walai Homestay in Batu Putih, Kinabatangan, offering activities such as homestays, wildlife river cruises, cultural performances, and informative talks and sharing sessions.
The purpose of public talks is to instil the value of maintaining our species, particularly in protected areas, as well as to combat encroachment and poaching. It is intended that by bringing more awareness seminars to schools, the problems of encroachment and poaching in protected areas may be gradually lessened, and eventually eliminated. The region covered includes the Danum Valley, Maliau Basin, and Imbak Canyon Conservation Area protected areas.

The Imbak Canyon Open Day in December 2024 was a vibrant event dedicated to promoting and raising awareness about the breathtaking DaMaI Rainforest Landscape among the surrounding local communities.
Public talks are organized with the aim of instilling an understanding of the importance of wildlife conservation, particularly in protected areas such as Danum Valley, Maliau Basin, and Imbak Canyon Conservation Area, while addressing issues of encroachment and poaching. Through increased awareness talks in schools, it is hoped that these problems can be gradually diminished and eventually eliminated. As a result, students gain a deeper understanding of the types of animals protected and highly protected, along with the penalties for poaching outlined in the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997. Additionally, students are encouraged to take an active role in educating their communities and reporting any encroachment or poaching activities to relevant authoritie
SNC initiate this program with the realisation that our pristine natural environment will not last forever unless everyone cooperates to protect and preserve it.
With that in mind, the Environmental Awareness Programmes is held in collaboration with District Education Office, Jab. Penerangan, District Office and District Council. This program not only promote awareness on cleanliness but also promote Yayasan Sabah Group efforts in preserving and protecting the conservation areas.
